Oh NO it is NOT your fault! If I had not had that place as an option to go to, I probably WOULD have lost my mind!!! At least they were willing to see me so late AND if he did indeed require an emergency surgery - they said they could do it. I just asked for the heck of it how much a neuter would cost if he needed one............$350 was the answer.

We pay about $280 a neuter, $350 for a spay. Emergency appointments unfortunately cost more as well as the services.

At the moment - the price flew over my head - I did not care as I thought his life might be in immediate danger. It took part of my house payment , but It will work out somehow. Could not live with myself if I did not take him anywhere.

Joanne: - yeah - sometimes we do not know about a vet until we actually use them & have a rattie that is critical. People think I am crazy cuz "it's just a rat". I wanna slap them! My rat is just as important as your $2000 pedigreed dog!

I didn't mean it as anyone's fault I just wanted to make sure that we could be confident with the vet's results because as we all know some vets have zero clue when it comes to rats but will diagnose anyway.

I got the referral for you so I'm admitting it... Your vet didn't seem to be doing his job.
EDIT: I re-read that and it didn't sound right. I simply meant you cannot get the medication you want and he's telling you to give him "hospice" care and prozac.... That's not a vet doing his job as if he cares for the patient!

After reading this post a few days back I figured I would get to know the colour of my rats man parts just in case. I started with my naked, 3 month old Golem. He's a black hairless. Even tough he's not so black anymore. His parts have the exact same discoloration. He's a perfectly healthy baby.

This thread really needs to be linked to another one. Matthew has been screaming in pain, on and off, for an unknown reason for about a month, give or take a week, and last week his gonads swelled up and turned blue. Vet found a mass in his abdomen.

How is he doing? Any changes?

Can you PLEASE post a picture of your guy? I would like to see.

Hi sorry about the last reply. I tried to post the pics on here but I'm not sure how with my phone. I was wondering if I could send them to you through e-mail if you wouldn't mind. You can PM me your e-mail.

I was Comparing your boys pics with the ones I took of Golem and your boy looks more bruised and swollen then mine :( You're more then welcome to see my pics if you like.

I've definitely been thinking of you and your boys the past week. I hope everything ends up being ok for him.

I just sent you a PM w/ my email. Can't wait to see the pics!!! thanks

Mattie has been "not himself" since his brother Luke passed away on June 9th. He is definately better now, but for a few days he would not eat much & appeared depressed. I told him that we both have to get over it. Our Lukie is gone but not forgotten. He had never been alone or w/o Luke his entire life. They were very close....Luke absolutely worshipped Mattie.
We both miss Luke tremendously:heart::heart::heart:

What's up with the mass they found?

absolutely nothing ...the "high dollar" vet said to keep him on the vit k for a week or so & see if the "blue" goes away any, which it has faded somewhat. They summed up that it is a tumor or hematoma that is / was bleeding. But lean much more to the tumor. Then they wanted to run more tests. Well "They" ( meaning high dollar vet ) are no longer in the picture by choice. My vet wants me to bring him in for an office visit & a 2nd opinion. He says if there is a tumor in there it needs to come out & we'll neuter @ same time. That sounds good to me. But he is concerned it could be attached to the colon & if it is he would not want to mess with it due to the danger of the colon leaking out into the bloodstream. So basically in a frickin' nut shell I think where it stands is that he might end up getting an exploratory surgery & neuter.

Hoping that Rats en Folie can email me the pics of her boy. I don't think the vets have seen this before....

So what are you waiting for?

Rats en Folie already said that your poor boy looks worse than hers so I don't see any point in waiting for pictures from her. It's already been 11 days since you first noticed this and over a month that the poor boy has been screaming in pain. If there is a mass in there then waiting is only going to cause more problems. It sucks that you can't be 100% sure what the issue is or what the outcome will be but just leaving it to see what happens is not a solution. I would get him in for a neuter ASAP.

You have no clue as to what is going on. You are picking certain things from my posts and not making any since.
1) I am not waiting on pictures for anything - I just want to see them
2) My boy has not been in any pain for weeks now and when he was in pain I already had pain meds on hand.
3) Are you a vet that you can tell me about a mass after I have already had an ultrasound done & prefer to take a veterinarians advise rather than yours?
4) I am not "leaving it to see what happens" Have you been with me when I have been talking to my vet about our options / our plan? He could potentially bleed out if we do not plan carefully what can be done.
5) A neuter w/b a simple fix, but unfortunately that is not the answer.
Now, we can start over with this conversation if you are interested and concerned ( that I can totally respect & appreciate ) but do not come at me like this. I do get offended when people want to insinuate I am not caring for my animals properly. If you knew me you would not even reply w/ such a post as you did.

You're right I don't know what's going on because you don't provide all the information. I had no idea that your boy was no longer screaming because you didn't address that point when it was brought up. And I am seriously concerned for your boy if the vet thinks he has an internal mass that is bleeding. I am not posting on this thread to be a troll I am genuinely worried about your boy.

But I still have no idea what the plan of action is which is why I asked what you were waiting for? A vet appointment? More tests? A surgery appointment? For his condition to change? You haven't been clear about what's being done so that's why I asked.

I am taking Mattie to the vet this coming Saturday for another evaluation and to see if he will be a candidate for surgery.
