Norry is on benazepril for suspected heart disease

he's breathing just fine, so why is he hanging his head over the shelf?
I've never seen him do this before

Rocko keeps going over to him to keep him company

I have lasix on hand from the vet, it's 10mgs per mL

he's approx 600 grams

What should his dose be, and should I give him any?

Oliver and Popper did that when they were having trouble breathing. Are his feet, tongue, tail blue or purple? Is he open mouth breathing?

OK the tip of his tail is slightly cooler than the rest, and it's very warm here today

what confuses me, and has confused me all along, is that his breathing is normal!

he has a very rapid heart rate, that was the reason for his diagnosis of cardiomyopathy

I upped his benazepril and gave a tiny bit of lasix, but I'm thinking if I don't see any change I'll give him a full dose,

according to the rat guide, I THINK it's .5mls for a rat his size?
does anyone know?

Popper's last dose was .10 of 10mg/ml dose and he was definitely not that big when he passed.
You probably won't see gasping until they are in seriously distress.

there's no increase in his breathing at all, no signs that he's having any trouble breathing- I've seen rats with CHF and they were clearly having trouble catching their breath

of course Norry doesnt' move around much, so maybe that is why?

he still wants to eat, so thats good
he was just looking so much more energetic the past couple of days :/

The lasix isn't going to hurt. Its just going to make him pee and possibly thirsty. Its your call if you feel something isn't right - your probably right you see them all the time. :pills: Feel better Norry!

I don't know if it's been long enough for the lasix to work (I gave him 0.5mls)
ETA it's been 2 hrs since I gave it

but, anyway, he's gone to the bottom of the cage and nibbles on food

then he falls asleep in odd places where he'd never choose to sleep, like on top of a pile of rough chewed up wooden toys and such
I had to move him over

I am wondering now if maybe he's "throwing" clots?

his tail tip is normal temp now.

oh I don't want to be seeing these things happening. it's too soon
It's too soon.
:(
it's always too soon

I've never dealt with heart issues either, I wish I knew what to say. But I do know that with respiratory issues, they hang off the shelf too. That's usually very bad when they get to that point with a uri.

I have some boys that actually just hang their head over the shelf to do it. You can usually tell with the breathing. Lasix usually kicks in pretty fast but I would do a few doses to make sure it is working. He could need his heart meds up a bit? I would assume that could be a problem if the dose isnt strong enough.
