Okay, I hope!
She just got meds now and ate a bit, poor thing.

That first dose you were given is way too low and metacam can only be given once a day or it messes up the liver or some other organ that is why we got Clark the tramadol to go with the metacam since we could not increase the metacam - he gets .18 metacam too I think that or .2 once a day and .12 tramadol twice a day...

I saw the owie stretches yesterday for the first time and they are awful to watch..

All right, I will give her the 0.18 metacam once a day then, and baytril twice. I hope it is enough for her, we are going back Friday or Saturday...

I'm so glad she has a better prognosis! Are you going to be doing wound care daily and flushing it before packing it?

The vet advised to not flush it, just to treat her with the antibiotics, and to put the triple antibiotic on there(I just smeared a giant glob on there). It seems to be doing better, I'm not seeing any infection or pus, almost no smell anymore. :cheerful:

Clark gets Baytril .15 ml (100mg/ml) once a day, Meloxicam .20 ml (1.5 mg/ml) once a day, Flagyl (Metronidazole) .12 ml (100 mg/ml) twice a day, Tramadol .12 ml (formulated 50mg/ml) twice a day, and ointment infused into his left testicle twice a day. That is just Clark's daily routine - glad Oreo is feeling better and hopefully she will healing up quickly now that the infection is taken care of. :flowers2:

so glad Oreo is doing better. this has been a nerve wracking journey to follow, just as a distant spectator/well-wisher/fellow rat lover
I can't even imagine how it feels being her "person"
((((Aida))))

Vickie, that's a lot of meds for one rat, wow. is he doing better? sorry I"m not keeping up too well with everything lately
:/

Gah, Petunia, I think a lot of that has been mostly me freaking out and panicking. Now that I look back, there is a lot that has been very good, like the fact that the vet even succeeded at removing an inguinal tumor, or that she is recovering so well weight/health wise. I just know that when this all heals, it'll be back to normal and my baby will be happy again. :)

This morning the incision looked a lot better. No pus or much redness- just a bit of pink- and the staples are still in. It is just an open hole, but it doesn't look like anything is oozing out and it hasn't bled. The smell is also gone, it seems!

I'm not glad this happened to Oreo at all, but I fell a little better since you were watching her like a hawk, monitored everything and still it came out of no where. So I don't feel so bad about missing it on Clark. I freaked a little yesterday, but then realized it was just the ointment coming out the hole - that is weird to me too since everything we have been taught is don't put anything in the hole! I'm glad the infection didn't get into our babies blood. Now they are both on the road to recovery - again! When does Oreo get the e-collar off? They thought about putting one on Clark, but he doesn't bother the site. Continued healing vibes to Oreo from all of us ... :flowers3:

Sounds like your little sweetie is getting better every day. I had two rats who were on metacam twice a day. Vet thinks pain is really affecting their stress level and recovery.

You need to see if you can get hold of a Tramadol prescription or else supplement with Tylenol.

if vets didnt use stitches to close them they wouldnt have this urge to pull them out as much. Stitches feel tight as they heal and that is a lot of work for the 10 days or whatever they require to heal.

Will these have to be removed?

Peggy, she had an allergic reaction to the stitches like Clark did and I believe they staped it shut yesterday after cleaning out the infection.

The stitches went, she now has just a few staples in that the vet figured would fall out in the next few days.

We're going back Saturday to get this looked at again, maybe something else can be done then...

A bit of out time and some play with the cagemates~
Ratatouille is definitely warming up, she's stopped running away. :lol3:
(That is Matilda next to Oreo in the pictures, the ones with Ratatouille came out a bit blurry)

The paper towels look messy but it's only because they had just flung them about everywhere, nesting. I have her on sheets of paper from a giant white roll, and softer paper towels on that, and I switch this out in the morning when i leave for school, when I come home from school, and before I go to bed-- pretty much whenever I see poops or pees!
I ran out of paper towels(lol, no kidding) so now she is on a couple layers of paper and some flat fleece hammocks laying on top of the paper.

Anyways, I got a good look at the wound today, and it isn't looking too bad. Definitely since before the stitches came out. There is no pus or swelling or anything like that, but I think there might be a slight smell, though that could just be from her pee all over it(I hope).

I can't wait till Saturday to have them look at my baby, and to volunteer and such! Also, not sure if I mentioned, but I have a interview(my first, ha ha) on Friday at my favorite grocery store-- out of 10+ applications, someone replied!!!
I really hope it goes well, I know they hire a lot of teens and stuff.

Oh Oreo I'm so sorry, but I had a giggle at that first picture. Poor girl and that "lamp shade" that's what we always called them as kids. Glad she's doing better and hopefully that thing can come off.
