I would say 4 would probably be the max...I have my 4 in a double and they still manage to use every inch of the space lol...so I definitely wouldn't do more than 4 in a single.

I would say 4-5 depending on the personalities of the rats.....

Amber, like the others said, you can put 4-5 and I find getting an extra shelf really helps to use the space better.
