So, I am a little worried. They are about 5 weeks. Two of them have nothing going on 'down there' but the other has what looks like a swollen lump with a line down the middle. I took her/him away from the other two, and put her in a temp carrier. What do I do now???????? How long before I know for sure?

you should know now, but here's pics of 2 babies at 5 weeks so you can hold them and compare them

Hmmmm. Well, after looking at this pic, I still don't know. There is def a bump down there, but not as developed as the pic of the boy. I also can't find any nipples. Maybe they are younger than the guy told me?? I'm trying to find a camera to take a pic.

AAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! :gaah:
My husband says we have to take it back to the guy we got him from!!!! I can't do that!! What if he becomes snake food? Or someone bad adopts him??? OMG, is nothing ever simple? I'd like to neuter him. How old do they need to be for that? If my husband lets me, we had our first two boys done almost ten years ago and it was $100 each at that time :(

Joanne has a vet that spays and neuters rats at a younger age then most.
Her vet is also very inexpensive compared with what most of us pay for spays and neuters.
She has had good results with this vet.
You may want to pm her for information

Spaying girls reduces their chance of getting mammory tumours from over 85% down to 3% to 4%
It also has other health benefits. Since both the ovaries and uterus are removed, there is no chance of pregnancy after surgery.

Neutering males has some health benefits.
After a neuter you usually need to wait several weeks before putting them in with girls to make sure all sperm are dead.

Oh that's good then phew, lol and sorry but whether bad or good, congrads on your 2 girls and recently discovered new boy :D hope all goes well if you decide to neuter

Well the good thing is that you discovered this in time. When we had a pet store pregnancy (unexpectedly - what a surprise!) I was so stressed, I think I separated the boys and girls at about 4 weeks - just to be sure we wouldn't have any more mistakes. So, make sure you separate them soon, and enjoy your boy - they are precious

Those sneaky girls... developing testicles like that while you aren't watching. lol
I sure do hope you can have him neutered and join his girls. That would be awesome!

Well, the general consensus is.... baby boy gets a neuter! I have the info from Joanne about her vet, so I just need to call and see how old he needs to be. She's been super helpful, and very nice, even though I am in this predicament because I got babies off Kijiji instead of taking hers :emb: The little guy is in our 'Pet Voyageur' case, I don't know if any of you have one of these, but it's like a cat/dog carrier for small animals, with a slide off locking top. It's really great, it's for vet trips, but it's been home now since yesterday for the little guy. Hopefully, tomorrow night I am getting a multilevel hamster cage from a lady on Kijiji that will house him until after his operation. I'm hoping it all goes well, because the sweetest rat I ever had was my Jazz, one of the only two boys I ever had.

Oh yes the neuter part for him wont be fun but he'll benefit for it thats for sure :D

I intend on getting a smaller cage for the girls too since they will only be 4weeks old exactly, or is the cage I have in mind gonna be able to hold them?

I've watched jorat's vids and I think at one point i saw the babies in these kind of cages, so I dunno maybe? Again congrads on your new babies!!! It gets me all pumped up for when my sweeties are finally born!
