Another one of the lilratsy's NY girls has crossed the bridge. Rosie (whom my ex renamed Blackleaf after a character in a funny comic) died Sunday afternoon. She had a large internal, inguinal tumor that was pretty invasive. We decided that it was too risky and would be too painful for her, to put her through surgery and we would monitor her to see how she was doing. She was super spry until Friday night, when she started arching her back in pain. We knew we would have to make a decision soon about whether to help her cross the bridge that weekend but it seems as though she made the decision for her. My ex found Cotton cuddling with her in the morning, after she'd passed away.
Rosie / Blackleaf was also special. Not just because of her spunky personality but because she was born without a tail! I often called her Hamster-Butt because of it. She was actually a great rat ambassador because of it. I have friends who are frightened of a rat's tail but will hold Blackleaf no problem. THey always tell me after how surprised they are that rats are so sweet!
She was also my ex's current heart rat. He wasn't shy about letting the world know that he favoured her! She was over at his place when she died; I'm glad they got to spent her last moments together!
