Well, a coworker of mine said that a friend of hers got a rat a couple of months ago but never got it a playmate and was not taking care of it so she asked if I could help. Having 5 rats already I told her I would ask Mainely Rat Rescue (which I volunteer as a temp foster and transport for) if they could help. They agreed to take her in but I would need to quarentine her for three weeks. Her story is hear breaking, not only was she never given another rat to play with but she's been living in a filthy tiny bird cage with only one level and one hideaway, not toys or hammocks! :sad3: I could not believe my eyes when I saw the cage she was in, it was the most dusgusting smelly thing I have ever seen and my coworker says this girl has maybe cleaned it ONCE since she's gotten her and shes had her for at least 2-3 months!!! Her diet was Regal Rat and junk food and she was never taken out for playtime. To make matters worse she nearly died the day I got her because I guess her owner felt bad about the whole thing and did love her but just could not take care of her so she decided they would spend their whole last day together and she brought her with her on all of her errands in the car with no water and it was nearly 80 degrees out and in a car in the sun you know it gets much hotter! :emb: So I guess she left her in the car for over an hour while she was in the store and came out and she was nearly unconsious laying on the dashboard directly in the sun!!! :thud: So that night I made sure she had plenty of water and fruits and vegetables high in water content. She was SOOO lethargic but thankfully has bounced right back!
I am actually amazed at how friendly and social she is and she loves to wrestle with your hand. She is the sweetest, most snuggly girl that I have ever met and has already fallen asleep in my fiancees hood! So, of course we are going to KEEP HER!!! :cheeky: This way it's even at 3 girls and 3 boys at least thats the excuse I keep telling myself. We have a double FN that should be big enough for six right??? This is my LIMIT though! Ecspecially since she came from a pet store and like many of my others has some respitory issues :wallbang: Can't say I'm surprised.
So, her name is Zoe but getting a new start and all I want to give her a new name... we started naming our rescues with L names so any suggestions? I want to be creative! Thanks in advance!
Here are some pics of her
