If you've seen the Roscoe Photoshoot post.. then you have seen pictures of the DogKitty Roscoe, a 1 year old stumpy manx *there are 4 different kinds of manx*. He's also my avatar until I can get some ratties. Well.. he isn't my cat unfortunately.. he is my boyfriend's grandmother's cat. We're living with his grandparents' while we work on repairs for our house.

He chases me up the stairs, will hide on the top one and attempt to pounce me if I walk to far away along the hall. Then hides under a bed and does it.
He knows what UP means
Every time he sees me he gets up off the couch or whatever he's on and follows me.
Earlier I was getting some herbs and spices from our room to make some noodles and was leaned down on the floor he hops on the bed and headbutt 'loves on me'.
I'm slowly teaching him the SIT and STAY commands *need to get treats*

BUT

I DRAW THE LINE at meowing at the bathroom door and waiting outside while I go to the bathroom! I know manx cats are supposed to be more doglike *I am trying to teach him to sit* but goodness sakes he's not even my cat and he's more attached to me than anyone else in the house.

Has anyone ever dealt with a cat that's bonded to you but isn't even yours? I could really use some advice x.x

:wallbang:

I had a friend who had this issue when she was living with an older couple while away at school. It got to the point that the cat would meow at my friend's closed bedroom door while she was gone for the weekend. The cat's owners decided that when my friend moved out she could take the cat if she wanted (and she did) because they saw how bonded the cat was to my friend.

And I realise thats not really any advice but maybe it will come to the point where your bf's grandmother will let him go because he's so bonded with you?

I doubt it. 1. She doesn't like me and 2. He's supposed to be a 'friend' for her cat Pheobe.. who happens to dislike him a lot. He'll look at her and try to get close but she'll hiss and run away... which causes him to chase her.

I was complaining about the bonding from Roscoe last night with my boyfriend because well.. I love him and would dearly love to have him as my own cat but he's not and I don't think his grandmother would like knowing that he's bonded with me. He did point out a sad truth that does tell me that we'll get him eventually because his grandparents are up in age and all... but still ya know? It's one of those things that I think will bug me..

Also.. anyone have an idea on how to teach a cat to play fetch? I was watching Cats101 and they did a thing on Manx cats and said that they are very doglike and you can teach them fetch >.>

I remember reading something about teaching cats to fetch, and I think the steps went like this:

Find something cat likes to put in mouth. Teach cat to take it on command. Teach cat to let go of it on command. Extend distance cat has to go to retrieve item in very small increments over time.

Sounds like a bear to do considering the only things he likes to put in his mouth is... my hand... the feather duster toy... and ribbon..

I think I'll just try to teach him to sit first and see if I can go from there xD

He's getting worse though. Curling around my legs and mewling and mewling at me and then he reached up and stretched along the banister wall thing as high as he could until I picked him up x.x Silly kitty

I just have to say I think it's adorable how the cat loves you. :p Usually cats are like that with people who hate them haha!!

My cat Bijou is in love with my mom. When my mom visits, Bijou always goes to see her and won't leave her alone, will even try to lie on her head from the top of a chair. Very weird... We just enjoy it.

Hehe, he IS a total lovedove sweetheart and as much as I love it too Cait, it totally sucks because he's not mine... that won't stop me from teaching him to sit or stay or anything.. if I could only get some treats... I do kinda wish he'd bond a little more with my bf's grandma, the rightful owner.. cause I feel kinda bad for it >.>

Personally I think the fact that he enjoys spending so much time with you should be taken in pride (1. because it is basically the best thing in the world to be loved unconditionally by anything and 2. he's a cat. not a labrador :)giggle:) he's picked you for a reason).

But if you're really that bothered by it - then I would maybe stop trying to teach him things, and paying extra attention to him. I would guess it would be really confusing for him when you want to reciprocate his attention only some of the times, but the rest of the time you want him to bugger off (and I understand how annoying it can be to have a cat that goes everywhere you go, and also the politics of your current situation - i dont mean it to come across that you dont want him around period - but for his sake it must be confusing being a cat and not understanding the politics of who you belong to and who you're "supposed" to love - ya know?).

And if you still want to carry on with training him tricks, giving clicker training, or some form of operant conditioning a try - thats what we've done with our cat and its worked really well. :)

operant conditioning?

I was gonna try the good old treat teaching tricks >.> Because I have no clue where to get a clicker for it.

I love his attention and don't ever mind it, but yea, you're right there is a lot of politics involved at the moment, especially since his grandmother sees me as nothing more than a bearable nuisance. When I get home from work he's Sooooo hyper and bouncy that when he's up in a chair and playing with a string and I lean on the chair back he stands up with his front paws on the top of the chair and gives me nudge/loves

Clickers are pretty easy nowadays, most decent pet supply stores will have them in a training section of the store, so just ask.

Both my friend and her mom trained their cat t play fetch using wrappers from lindor chocolates. Their cats just LOVE the crinkly noise, and for some reason it makes carrying them around a lot of fun. :)

haha! is it the safety button on the lid of a jar so you know nobodys tampered with it? :p it is a good idea for a clicker though!

>.> I wouldn't know anything about those chocolates I swear! I don't have a stash of them in the dresser drawer.. noooo >.>

<3's the white chocolate ones :D

I'll see when I get paid my first paycheck *Squeal!* if I can stop by and get one but I also have to set up a bank account and use some of it to pay bills.. and cut my hair.. and get at least one more pair of pants.... x.x I so hate shopping
