Hi I recently adopted a new rat and everything was fine with him until we noticed his front two toes were a little red a swelled nothing to bad but his back one had looked scabbed but healing. After a week Scottie's (his name) front two toes are now completely fine, however one of his front nails are missing and one looks like it may be trying to grow back and the back ones scab fell off a day or so ago and has now started to turn green at first it looked like it may have been puss filled but its hard like a scab. His nail has now just fallen off and is bleeding i know that rats toes can bleed a lot and all but I'm very worried about the discoloration of his toe, he doesn't seem to be in any pain that I can see, as i was applying pressure and he didn't have an issue and seems to walk on it just fine. He's still eating and drinking like a good boy but I want to know if I should let it sit for a day or so and see what happens or try to get a vet appointment.

can you get a pic of the toe? If you are worried you can pop him in the sink with a inch or so of warm water. His toes will soak in it while he's just standing there. IF he's a good boy about it you can add salt to the water. That can encourage any infection to surface and open up or just help with healing.

So after I wrote that I went to look at him and he had ripped the scab off his toe and it looks like just a chuck is missing (I have a picture) when I looked at this morning before having to leave for school it seemed to have started to scab again but I will try to soak him when I get home. He doesn't like being picked up much but he can sit still thankfully.

Looks like a bit of infection inside that toe. The soaks can help. Sometimes rats will bite other rats toes through the ramp bars etc. Sometimes they just injured themselves on something else...these little wounds heal. If it continues to swell and get red and scary then it might be time for antibiotics.
