Hi,
Recently I had to put down my pet rat Alley, and when they examined her body afterwards they informed me they found signs of fur mites. After looking through my other rat's fur, I found she also was showing symptoms of a mite infestation. Unfortunately, after the cost of putting down Alley, I don't have the funds to pay for both an exam and medication. The vet told me they would prescribe a medication called Revolution. I am hoping I can buy this medication off the internet to avoid the exam fee and extra wait time. However, I am only finding the medication for cats and dogs. Is it safe to give my rat the same medication but in a smaller dose? Any advice would be appreciated as I want my baby to be comfortable asap! Right now I'm just keeping her cage as clean as I can and slathering her in coconut oil or vaseline to help her scabs and possibly suffocate the mites.

Cat and dog Revo is used off-label for rats. Cat is not as strong a concentration than dog. But Revo is tolerated very well by rats so overdosing them is difficult.

Thank you so much for your helpful information! I’ve been looking around online but I
can’t find anywhere to purchase it without a prescription. Do you know anywhere that sells it without requiring a prescription? :)

Only places in Australia can sell Revo without a prescription but it can take a long time to arrive by mail.
Pets Megastore is a good place but make sure it's regular Revolution not the Plus stuff.
