I’ve only had them for 2.5 weeks so I’ll answer as best I can!She may have just not cleaned it up yet, I have one rat with a LOT more porphyrin then that because she's a little lazy with cleaning unlike other rats. But I'll ask a few questions here, is there a change in her breathing, weight, or behavior.? Is she peeing/pooping normally ?
Is porphyrin only when they’re stressed/sick? I guess I’m under the impression that porphyrin = BADShe may have just not cleaned it up yet, I have one rat with a LOT more porphyrin then that because she's a little lazy with cleaning unlike other rats. The sneezing could still be the classic New home sneezing so I wouldn't worry too much and just watch them. Every rat has porphyrin regardless of their health.! With healthy rats the most common time you see it is when they first wake up and haven't wiped it away yet, sick rats tend to not groom as much so that's why you normally see a lot when they're sick along with devilish and unkempt fur. Another possibility could have been an irritant of the eyes which makes me curious, what kind of bedding do you use for them.?Is porphyrin only when they’re stressed/sick? I use the Kaytee bedding. I’ve been doing research into other bedding such as hemp but I haven’t found a definitive answer as to what is best for them. The sneezing could still be the classic New home sneezing so I wouldn't worry too much and just watch them. Ahh alright, that's not a bad bedding.! Personally I use CareFresh but there are a few equally good ones out there too. I don't think it's the bedding making any issues(I was worried about shavings) and I'd say they're probably just getting used to the environment.!I use the Kaytee bedding.
