Most ratties will adjust their nap schedules around their humans. My boys are up at around 4-6:30am since I'm up too around that time; then they sleep for hours, getting up for 30 mins or so when I get home from work, then nap some more and are full of energy from 9pm until the early morning hours. :)

It could be that he snoozes while you're away and is more active later in the evening. Every rat is different. Rats sleep on average for 18 hours in a 24 hour period, so it could be that he is awake periodically throughout the day and that may change as he adapts to your schedule.

I wondered if it was that, but then he started getting back on his regular schedule.

Update: Wally's symptoms have decreased upon taking the meds, but he seems to only take it if I mix it with water (and apple juice) and soak regular Cheerios in it. Since before the new way of taking the meds, his poop has started to get more and more gray at times, and tonight I noticed some white stool. Some of his other poop is normal colored, but I'm still worried. I'll be taking him to the vet on Monday for a re-examination, so hopefully I can get some advice from her.

Any idea of what causes weirdly colored poop like this?

I'm so happy to hear that he is doing better! How long has he been on the antibiotics at this point? Have you seen any more gray and/or white poos since then? When you've noticed them, were they fresh or have they been sitting for a while before you noticed them (eg dried out)? Hopefully the vet had some input for you. White or gray stool unrelated to something that the rat may have ingested, is caused by a lack of bile that indicates an underlying issue with the liver.

I'm hoping it's just from something he ate but keep us posted!

They were usually dried out. He'd been on the medicine for three weeks, and the vet took him off of them. I haven't noticed any since then. The vet tested them for anything bad, but the tests were negative. I've been putting him in his carrier and placing him in the bathroom as I shower so he'd get some steam treatment like the vet suggested, and he seems to be doing well. He seems to enjoy it, especially since he gets to play afterwards XD
