Hello! I need help from someone who knows a little about rat diet? I made a post about this a while ago and no one replied so please any kind of help is great. Im from Europe and the only good Rat food I could find was Science Selective. It was a great food until they changed the recipe and made it for both rats and mice. Now, apparently, the wheat contect is too high in SS and it can damage the rats kidneys. My first question is, is
there a way I can feed them Science Selective mixed with something else to even out the wheat content being too high? If this isnt possible, I found another brand of rat food that I would like someone more experienced to tell me if it looks good - " Cunipic Rat" - It is rather expensive and it contains animal products, that is something I would love to be able to avoid but this was the only one i could find that looked decent.

My second question is, I was thinking of creating my own mix based on the IsamuRats recipe. This recipe contains dog food as protein source. Again, I would very much rather feed my rats on a vegan diet, so, does anyone know of any vegan dog food brands that are suitable for rats? ( Europe ) Thank you!

Isn't it the Supreme rat food? I checked out the ingredients and it looks really good. When I get rats again, I'm trying that food for them. Why do you think wheat is bad for their kidneys? Do you have any studies showing this? Rats fuel source, like humans is carbs and wheat is a good source.
As for dog foods, even vegan ones, they are much too high in fat and protein.

I actually don't lol. I watched a video talking about it and commented with some other people who studie rat nutrition. I messaged the person who made the video and asked from what source did they learn this info. I'll update you when they tell me. I believe you know a lot about rat diet too, I think I chatted with you about something similar a while ago. To be honest, it would be amazing if you could tell me Supreme Science Selective is still safe cuz, making my own mix/ finding a good rat food is being a pain lol.

About the dog food, I wasn't gonna feed it as a base or main part of the mix it was a small percentage for protein, 10%.

Yeah, I did a lot of research on rat nutrition back in the day, talked with my vet and an animal nutritionist as well. I agree, making your own food is a pain in the neck and it leaves us wondering are we giving the right amounts. I really like what I see on Science Selective. I've never used it on my rats so I can't say for sure if it's good for health but from reading the ingredients and such, I would definitely do that food. Supplement with fresh foods like veggies and whole grains, avoid extruded grains like those puffed grains. Whole oats, millet, farro, and seeds are good too, raw pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds but not too many.
