I'm getting a base pan 3" high and wondering what bedding to use? I use Yesterdays news in the litter box, of which they sometimes dont use.

I know I'm late with this answer, but you can use whatever bedding you were before the pans. We've used carefresh shredded paper bedding in the past (beware that even the 3 inch deep bass pans won't stop determined ratties from throwing it out of the cage!) alot of rattie owners still use the fleece liners even WITH the pans, but they lay them in the pans instead of clipping them down with clips (you can place heavy objects in your pans to help hold down the liners. Things like terracotta pots, litter boxes, or bricks/heavy rocks. All of these things also serve another purpose in their cages. Pots will help keep rats cool in hot weather and give them a place to hide, bricks and rocks give them a place to climb and will help file nails down) I've seen some parents who will line their pans with plain white paper (gives the rats something to shred as well!) Paper doesn't last as long and will have to be changed more often than the carefresh or fleece liners. hope this helps you and good luck with the bedding!!!!!
