It could be a respiratory infection. I'd take him to the vet for some meds..

I've been given Doxycycline, but my vet wasn't clear on dosage (they don't tend to deal with rodents, it's extremely cat/dog orientated). I've been given 100mg (far too much?) and told to dilute it and give her it ever 12hrs/daily.

Wondering if anyone could help with the dosage?

26 grams is the size of a 1-2 week baby so that weight can't be right. Doxycycline alone may not be enough for this anyways. Do you have any leftover pills in your own cupboard? Ciprofloxacin? Azithromycin?
I can help you with mixing and dosing your doxy but need a more accurate weight.

Maybe if it's mostly a dog/cat vet, they will be willing to learn. Go to www.ratguide.com and print out the stuff on respiratory infections and the different meds like doxy, baytril, azithromycin, and take it in to them. They may even add a med, and amend the dosage for you. Especially since you were just there. That is a vet approved medical site. Also, for the future if issues come up, ask them for her correct weight.

we weighed her at home at 256g, is that about right? I'm not entirely sure on her age. My auntie gave me some Baytril she got from the vets (not the same one) about 2 weeks ago. Is this ok to use? But I'll take them in!

And no I don't have any of those, can I buy them over the counter in the UK? I'll happily go and buy some for her!

256 grams is a small female but an adult weight :)

So lets doublecheck your doxycycline before i work out the mixing and dosing. You were given 100 mg tablets or capsules of doxy? How many of these were you given? I'll work out mixing/dosing basing it on 100 mg capsules or tablets and if that's wrong let me know and you can disregard it.

Take 1 - 100 mg capsule or tablet, mix with 1 ml of hot tap water til dissolved, then add 4 ml of sweet syrup. This gives you a solution of 20 mg/ml doxycycline. Your girl's dose would be 0.13 ml twice a day. Did they give you a 1 ml/cc syringe for medicating?

I have 14 capsules, and I have I have a 3ml syringe already so will this do? The vet didn't give me any syringe (beginning to think I should go elsewhere in the future).

But thanks so much for the help! I'll do exactly this.
