Hello,

I noticed today that one of my guys is not using his left arm. He kinda holds it out straight and his hand is clenched up. About two weeks ago he started moving differently, shuffling around like he'd suddenly become an old man overnight and just significantly less active. He's about 21-24 mths, not sure exactly as I got him from a shelter. I don't think he's in pain, he's not avoiding it totally. He lets me handle him. Hasn't lost his appetite. Could it be a pituitary tumour? I'll take him to the doctor tomorrow but in the meantime if anyone has any ideas, fire away.

OMG I love him. he's not showing any signs of PT thankfully. he's brigh-eyed, alert, accurate, fast and playful :) I would think its possibly a sprained paw or leg and he's being smart by favoring it. How long has it been? Have you offered him a small treat to see if he uses that arm at all then?

Phew! That's a massive relief then. It started Monday evening although I don't know how it could have happened he's pretty docile although I do have two cages next to each other and they like to clamber from one to the other via the front if that makes sense. I just noticed in the clip he does use his left arm to lean on the drawer. Anyway I will keep an eye on it. Can't get him to my vet til tomorrow as they're fully booked.

Just do me a favour? Put that lovely boy in your lap (try to convince him to be still) and feel up and down his arms at the same time to see if there's any soreness or swelling you might not see...especially in the shoulder.
if you find a slight swelling or soreness you could give him infant ibuprofen for a day or so just to help bring down any swelling. If you find its significantly harder and more swollen than you expected let me know?

Yep I'll do that. He's gorgeous isn't he, really sensitive little guy ;)

I don't notice any swelling or hardness. If he's in pain then he's hiding it amazingly. I'll give him some Nurofen for Kids and see how he responds to that.

If you have a weight on Benji and the concentration (20 mg/ml?) for the Nurofen I can give you an effective dose if you like?

glad to hear its probably just an owwie.

Fantastic. How is he today Daniel?

He's doing pretty good! Took a while but almost totally back to normal. I think maybe he's just getting old... At least this boy is free of mycobacterium flare-ups, so thankful for that :)
