I hear rats like to pee on rocks, so I plan to put a couple in the litter boxes I have. I have also seen people via YouTube and pictures use bricks in their rats cage for various reasons, from keeping their nails trimmed and for leaky water bottles.

My question is, where can I find these, and how do I wash them before I put them in my rats cage.

I don't want to put a contaminated brick or rock into their cage.

Hi, yes, a lot of people find great use in rocks. You could boil the rocks for 30 minutes and allow to cool down before adding to the cage. And after, I would just wash them normal, soap, vinegar and water.

A Lava Ledge should work like a brick would for filing their nails naturally as they step, climb, walk, sit or otherwise move around on them. And since I couldn't find the "pee rocks" online, was going to see if I can find a small smooth stone at the beach, but does anyone know their preferred size and shape and where it can be bought?
EDIT: Found a landscaping store where you had to buy a huge amount and they were synthetic, but then the below craft store. (Can anyone tell us the degree to which they should or shouldn't be polished, small and flat for rats of various ages?)
