Tut-Zoo Space - Black hooded with headspot DU dumbo (manx)
Space is from the same litter as the Pilot. Manx in Denmark is a big NO-NO!
So the breeder was very upset when Space turned up in the litter. We offered Space a home so he lives with us.
Eventhough he's tailless, he's just like every rat. Plays, jumps, crawls and so on.

Why is Manx a big no-no?

Also - you guys have gorgeous gorgeous rats!!!

Well... Simpel.. Because of the fact that their tail is a part of their spine..
Not having the tail can cause the rat severe back problems.

Furthermore, there is no telling how far up the spine the tail might end..
If the tail is so short that the spine doesn't connect to the hips, or simply is too short, it can result in fatal problems such as incontinence...
Manx rats are generally not bread after here in Denmark, because of the risk for litters that can't survive...

rat.charmer said:
Oh ok :) Yeah I knew about the spine problem but I thought maybe it was illegal or something and the breeder was going to get into trouble or the rat was going to have to be put down!

Oooh no not at all :D
The breeder was just very sad because of the life Space might get.
But he's a lucky boy and has no problems.
In the litter was another manx - Ice. He was put down when he was 3 weeks old - incontinence..

It's not illegal, but the breeder will definitely get in trouble here, if rumor spreads that he/she breeds manx...
Somehow breeders here "live" on their reputation..

The pics are amazing, do you work the background to make it white?

Firben, you might as well keep adding to this thread since the rats are yours too. :wink2:

Thank you!
I do the pictures and the website graphics, Sofie does the writting :cheeky:
We actually use a white table top to take pictures on, and edit the backround..
It's not always an easy job, but absolutely worth it..
The most important part of taking the pictures, is the lightning..

My manx girl seems to be clumsier then my other rats. She falls A LOT more. But otherwise she is a normal rattie....

Ok quick question-are manx rats born without tails or are they cropped? Either or does not sound right-why would you want a tailess rat?!? I love my rat tails! and how they curl around your fingers or whip against my cheek....I love me some rat tails!
