Hi, I just ordered this Baytril 10% solution and I'm trying to figure out how much I would need to give my rats, as well as how much it would need to be diluted. I've been searching through forums and some people have said they do a 50:50 mix, while some dilute by 4 or 5 times.

How would I calculate the dose volume with the diluent already added?

If I have a girl that weighs 240g, would the dose would be 0.024mL (for a 10mg/ml dose) plus another 0.024ml strawberry quik(or whatever)? or plus another 0.096ml (4x) strawberry quik?

And a boy that weighs 485g would get 0.0485 (or 0.05) plus an additional 0.05 of diluent?

And if I was doing a 5mg/ml dose, they would each get 0.012 and 0.025ml of the baytril?

I would also be making a larger batch for 2+ weeks.

Thank you!

You can mix 1 ml of 10% baytril with 3 ml of syrup which gives you 25 mg/ml baytril. Your girl would get 0.14 ml twice a day, and your boy would get 0.29 ml twice a day for about 3 weeks.

Thank you for the response! Do you mind elaborating on how you got those numbers? I'm having a hard time figuring out what the formula would be for this. Sorry for the hassle!

No worries.

10% baytril = 100 mg/ml, divide 100 by 4 since the 1 ml of baytril is liquid you add it to the 3 ml of syrup)and you get 25 mg/ml. I dose baytril at 15 mg/kg.

Multiply the weight in kg by the dose (0.24 kg x15 mg/kg) then take that total.and divide into the concentration (3.6 /25 mg/ml) = 0.144 ml
