I have a 2 year old rat that has a pituitary tumor, and I know she's at the end of her life, but I'm looking fo medications that can possibly extend her life, while making her more comfortable. Either that, or I'm looking at pain meds to at least help her die painfree when she is ready. I have heard Bromocriptine does wonders, Dexamethasone, or just plain steroids to help. Has anyone had any luck with these meds? Or is it time to let her go and have her euthanized...?

They put her on Prednisolone which is a steroid and pain medication. They also ground her teeth down more, since she can't eat hard food anymore and her teeth were pretty long. She's already eating a lot more, so I hope things will be better for her :)

You may want to look into putting her on cabergoline as well. Depending upon the type of pt she has, it can make a significant difference. For info please see: http://ratguide.com/meds/central_nervous_system_drugs/cabergoline.php

and http://ratguide.com/health/neoplasia/pituitary_tumor.php

Prednisolone reduces inflammation, reducing symptoms and can add a lot of quality time if the tumour is slow growing. Prednisolone impacts the immune system so if the vet did not also put her on an antibiotic (such as baytril), then you need to get her on an antibiotic immediately. See http://ratguide.com/meds/endocrine_hormones/prednisone_prednisolone.php

Glad she is doing better
good luck

Thanks for the responses, I'll have to keep them in mind for my future rats. I ended up having to put my rat down the next morning, as she was seizing all night and had lost all mobility. All she could do was lay there. Now she's crossed the rainbow bridge and is now with her sister ♡
