Critter Camp Exotic Pet Sanctuary:
Critter Camp Exotic Pet Sanctuary is the only rescue of its kind in the US and possibly the world! We take in only small unusual and/or unadoptable pets other than cats and dogs (no wildlife or farm animals either.) Visit our site! http://crittercamp.weebly.com/
Critter Camp provides a safe, loving, healthy home to over 300 small pets of 30 different species. Most were slated for euthanasia in "kill" facilities due to old age, illness, aggression or fearfulness. Our sanctuary is basically assisted care, nursing home and hospice for these precious little souls. We feel every creature has the right to a full happy life, no matter how damaged by humans.
Animals living at Critter Camp include ferrets with cancer, elderly hamsters, gerbils that bit people, guinea pigs that do not like to be handled, rabbits that have attacked shelter staff in other rescues, rats with tumors, etc. and unusual pets that need specialized care such as fennec foxes.
Critter Camp is USDA and ILDoA licensed, all volunteer operated, and fully insured.
We also give educational presentations and tours to help prevent people for obtaining the wrong pets and to give the correct care to the pets they do have.
Recently ratty news: We took in 15 of the Fruitport MI ratties that were in that condemned house & rescued by Yale Road . There are 13 boys and 2 ladies, all the less adoptables as we specified. The two ladies were pregnant - one had 7 babies & they have been adopted and the other had a very late single baby- born enormous like a 1-2 week old! That little girl is already spoken for. So right now we have no adoptables but about 120 sanctuary rats. Most are biters and or elders, some have inoperable tumors.

Currently Critter Camp is asking for people to pledge a monthly amount as sponsorship of the rescue in general or an animal they prefer. They have many different animals to sponsor, but here are the details about the mice and rats:
Sponsor Critter Camp rescued mice & rats
$10/month
(actual cost of care $500/month for all)
At any given time Critter Camp cares for 10-20 mice and an average of 120 rats. Most are biters, elders or have tumors and were going to be euthanized at kill shelters. Very often all other rescues within hundreds of miles have said no and we then accept these little sweeties. Some have been found as strays and are not friendly. Some are the product of a domestic female rat (who got loose) and wild male rat and are not handleable. Some come from hoarder situations. We love the ratties & mice very much and make sure they are happy with hammocks, hideouts, toys & treats.
