Another hoarding situation...posted from Facebook
East Bay Rats Need Your Help

North Star Rescue is undertaking another large case of rats in a hoarding situation. The owner of the rats took them from a severe neglect situation, but was unable to contain the rats and they got loose in the house and started breeding out of control. We were able to visit the home this week and estimate that there are 500 rats in the property, not all of which are in cages right now.

Many of these rats are injured, sick, pregnant, and in dire need of a clean place to live and good food. The owner has been trying hard to collect cages to seperate the rats but can't stop the situation without a major intervention and a lot of help, and we want to give these rats a happy ending to a sad story so far.

We have already started sending volunteers to the location to pull rats who need immediate medical help, catch loose rats, clean and help sort the rats by gender. The owner is working with us to try and improve conditions while we work on finding placement for them all. These rats are social with people and just need some TLC to really shine.

We have already removed fifty rats from the property, including many babies who are in very bad shape and pregnant females who have already started giving birth in foster care. This is just the tip of the iceburg though, unless we can remove the rats in bulk and quickly they will reproduce faster than we can pull them back to our rescue.

We need your help. We've reviewed our budget and determined in order to pay for the additional equipment, medical care and care needs for the next batch of 100 we want to pull immediately we need to raise $2,000, and we'll need to continue raising more beyond that to help all of the rats before things get worse.

With your help, we can make it happen! Please consider donating, volunteering, fostering or helping us spread the word by sharing this story.
