Well its possible we've lost our minds, but in an attempt to get Peanut to use his back legs he started acupunture today. He definitely has feeling and movement back there. Should know within 3 appointments if its going to work.

Oh, that is great! I am so happy to know that there is such a thing as acupuncture for small animals and rodents, super news, and great for Peanut! Is he getting his treatments from a veterinarian who also does acupuncture or is it some kind of specialist? I am fascinated. I hope it works for his legs! Keep us posted?

Our vets are into holistics and trained/licensed in acupunture. In fact, they only see cats/dogs for acupunture otherwise, its straight exotics. I know they have done it on a mouse before, but Peanut is the first rat I believe.

Wow, that is amazing. I think if acupuncture helps humans, why not animals, of course! I hope it helps Peanut's legs. I will keep my fingers crossed for him. :)

He has been getting his "physical therapy" three times a day, which just consists of me moving each legs up and down six times. One leg he seems to want to move, but the other not so much. He was using his upper arms more yesterday to drag himself around. Just have to get those atrophied muscles working again .... Next acupunture appointment is Monday...

Aww, I can just see you giving Peanut his physical therapy and moving his little legs back and forth...he is SO lucky to have such a caring mother to be his at-home physical therapist/nurse. Hope to hear some good news with his acupuncture too! :)

Not going to get my hopes up too high since its been about a year since he's actually used his back legs, but he was a bit mobile when I got home from work. He was actually up eating - normally he's sleeping. Like I said he definitely has feeling in the legs/feet. Not quite sure how or why acupuncture works, but if there is a chance why not?

Exhausted Peanut on Thursday, he had a busy day... 699 grams

Aww, what a sweet picture! Exhausted Peanut after a big day! As usual, give him my kisses and well wishes and I hope his legs get better! I bet it feels good to him to have you move his legs around and give them some circulation. :)

I forgot to call the vet yesterday, but Thursday night the nutman had a swollen foot and the bottom was dark purple - looks to me like the needle punctured a vein. My poor baby... He is more mobile though these days although he isn't exactly using his legs/feet...

Oh no, poor Peanut! The acupuncturist punctured a vein?? Did you talk to her about it and tell her what happened?
Poor baby!

Yes she did and she saw him today for it. His toes are starting to twitch, don't know if that is good or bad. He seems to want to use his right foot. We'll be trying manual pressure points for now. This pic is actually about 50% better than it was on Thursday/Friday

Oh poor Peanut...that photo makes me want to cry (sorry, I am a soft belly). I wish I could kiss his foot and make it better. :tearful:

Oh, that is great, I am glad he is feeling better and getting some metacam too, that will make it not feel so sore I am sure. Good deal!
