Movement to reverse ban on pet rats in Alberta

CBC Radio, on a show called The 180, had a piece on a movement to overturn the nonsensical ban on pet rats in Alberta.

They are still fighting it? No luck as of yet on getting it changed?

Alberta is a tough case. Most people there have never heard of pet rats. They are shocked and amused when I tell them about mine.

Man I have always thought that was one of the most ridiculous things....

If they were banned everywhere then it would not be legal for them to be frozen alive, slowly suffocated, eaten alive or tortured by other methods

I support banning rats everywhere as it seems like the only way to end cruelty.
I certainly don't see any posts on here or anywhere else re people fighting to get animal abuse laws in place to protect rats
so banning them may be the only way to stop the abuse!

I would love to live back in alberta, but they don't allow rats, so I never gave it a second though of moving back. I hope they remove the ban and also put in place some laws to protect rats.

I hear ya SQ... it does seem like the only way to stop cruelty but I don't think that will ever happen. They would just find another way around it. Unless all exotics were banned.
