Finally, here it is, my thread dedicated to photos of my beloved ratties.

First up are photos of my dearly departed Peanut, who joined our family in August 2012. She had been one of the animals housed at a "Critter Camp" and had been injured (stepped on) by one of the campers. A friend of mine was nursing her back to health and, knowing I had rats in the past and have two children who adore animals, asked me if I would like to take her. It had been almost 20 years since I'd had rats. Goodness only know why I waited that long! Now my boys and I are hooked on rats (again!). :D

We adopted Layla from the Guelph Humane Society in October of 2012. I thought she would be a great companion for Peanut, so I purchased a DCN and worked diligently on introductions for over a month, but it became very clear by the end of the year that Peanut was not at all interested in Layla, in fact wanted nothing to do with her, and wanted her no where near "her stuff". :) Poor Layla, she wanted Peanut so badly. But I got some cute photos during their many "playdates...

Sadly my dear Peanut (who was at the vet a LOT as she was plagued by many health problems her whole life, particularly respiratory problems and complications related to her injury at the pet camp she lived at during her early months) passed away after a long battle with a Pituitary Tumour in December, 2013. So now it is just Layla rattling around in her DCN, and of course getting lots of love from her humans. Here she is in recent months.

Yes, they are definitely going to live with Layla. :hug4:

After intros, of course. But I really hope it won't take too long. :)

Beautiful photos of beautiful ratties! Hopefully your new additions will bring much better success with intros so Layla doesn't have to be all alone. Though I have to say she must feel pretty lucky having all that space filled with fun toys! :giggle: Can't wait to see pictures.

Layla is such a pretty girl and Peanut, she reminds me of our Curley - he too sadly past away from PT. Can't wait for more photos.

I'm glad Peanut got to live in a good home after a rough start. It's too bad that she never accepted Layla. I hope Layla will be more accepting of the new babies you are getting. I'm sure everyone must be so excited they are coming. :)

The photos were awesome...Peanut and Layla looked adorable together and I am so sorry about Peanut passing away. :(

The photo of Layla in her very own playhouse with her name on it was just priceless. And "helping" with your son's backpack, just adorable! I can tell that your babies have a very loving home with you and your boys. :)

Thanks everyone. :)

Well, the top half of our DCN is bursting with new baby rattie toys in anticipation of their homecoming today! Can't wait to get Lily and Esme home!
