Our daughter had planned to have her bunny spayed last Friday. They have a blood test done before the surgery to ensure that the liver and kidneys are working fine . Unfortunately the blood levels were too low so the surgery was postponed until the middle of next month.
The vet said it could be because she has parasites or just too young yet. I am sorry I know nothing else right now. Has anyone had this happen to their rabbits.

Not off hand. I will ask Christine more about it after she gets back from Kingston. Pancakes is around 6 months old. She has the same vet you have for the rats. Christine really likes her.

This is a e-mail I just got from my daughter concerning her youngest rabbit.

Well pancakes is still not fixed. The levels were
still high and so they performed the parasite test.
They have to send the tests to Tennesse and so it'll
be a couple weeks before we get the result. I
rescheduled her surgery for sept 7 just in case she is
able to have it. By the sounds of it its either a
parasite or something worse. The assistant told me
that if she had the parasite she could still have the
surgery but if its the other thing then she can't..so
i guess there is definitely something wrong with her
but they aren't sure what it is yet.

She is very frustrated but she know her vet is good. Joanne can second that.

I am sorry. I thought they were too low but I guess it is just the opposite. She has it straight. In two weeks we will know if she can be spayed or not. She was hoping this could be cleared up before she moves to Kingston.

Oh that's scary. I hope it's just a parasite thing and they can clear her right up. And she's so young still. Did she ask if it could affect Digger too?

If it is a parasite it can affect Digger but only through urine. Digger and Pancakes are in seperate cages and are let out at different times. They are not exactly best of friends. With the uncertainity Christine has not attempted to intro them just in case.

Our daughter had her rabbit spayed in Kingston on Wednesday. Everything went fine. She had to have an IV due to her parasite problem but things are now complete. They are still dealing with the parasite. I love this little rabbit. She is holland Lop and one beautiful colour. Christine says she almost didn't get her back from the vet as two of the girls wanted her rabbit :)

Ann

She still has those parasites? Hard buggers to get rid of. Poor pancakes.
I'm so glad she's spayed though. Uterine cancer is a big killer of bunnies.
Yay pancakes!!

Goodness, there's an exotic vet in Kingston? I went to a clinic on Division Street but they only do cats and dogs. The vet was fantastic and saw my mouse anyway, giving me her time and a few supplies completely for free. Unfortunately the mouse died about five minutes after I got home. :( Anyway, I'd love to know who your daughter saw!

I just checked with my daughter and here is the proper info. Beardall Animal Hosptial and Dr. Chamberlain did her rabbit's surgery. I don't know if he/she is a exoctic specialist but Christine seemed to like the vet.

Ann

Oh that's brilliant, thank you, Ann! A few friends at Queen's have asked me where I took my rats and a Toronto address wasn't very helpful, lol. I know rats and rabbits are different but it's certainly a step closer than dogs or cats. :D

Dr Gay Chamberlain is indeed an exotic vet, and I believe she also treats birds and lizards. She did my first ever rattie tumour removal when I was 7 :D

My mom used to work for Beardall Animal Hospital, and I think she has just recently gone back part-time, so I hope to be seeing Gay and the Beardall Crew soon. Everyone there has always been really lovely.
