How does one beat the winter blues? Why, by having a winter fest for your critters. I’ve created a set of cute sledding and skating penguins. Just think how sweet the cage will look all doled up in winter fest penguins. Your critters will love the new hammocks, keeping them warm throughout February and more.
Happy winter!
Check out the categories for the hammocks. We’ve got pop up tents, boats, hide & squish, cubes, even a baby cube for those smaller critter lovers.

Recently on the Rat Shack a member took in some hairless rats with lots of eye problems. It was determined that these rats needed a cleaner environment and a lint free home. It was clear that fleece and flannel could not be used for bedding or hammocks. The vet recommended a tightly woven fabric like broadcloth. Jo and I decided to donate some hammocks for these special little guys. We were able to find the fabric at Fabricland. The challenge was making a lint free hammock. I knew that most fabric except for fleece will fray when cut. So the challenge was to make sure there were no cut sides exposed. It was all about tucking, folding, sewing and making the hammock as “clean” as possible. One of my bunk beds had to be remade a few times over, trial and error is how I finally was able create usable hammocks. In the end, I think it turned out pretty good. I was able to make 2 pocket hammocks, 2 flats, 4 bunk beds and 1 tent. I really do hope these little guys are not chewers, this fabric will fray once it’s been cut into, cutting with teeth is no exception.
Their new mom has done so much for them, taking them in, getting them to the vet and setting them up in their unique home. I’m very proud and happy to be able to give a little back to such a wonderful person and hairless ratties too.
Hammocks the whole lot!

A Hide & Squish.

And one of the favourites chez Shelagh is the Bunk Bed. I’ve never offered these before but I find them easy to make and will now be making them.

There’s a new hammock in town. I’ve been mulling over this new design that Jo has been talking to me about but I knew it was a big job and required a lot of fleece. I just didn’t know if I could pull off exactly what she wanted. When push came to shove, I sat down and actually created it. 3 hours later, this beautifully huge hammock was born. This hammock is great for big colonies and in big cages. It reaches one section of a Ferret Nation (critter) from top to bottom and pretty much covers the whole area beside the shelf. The top opens up to the shelf and the bottom sits on the ground, perfect for older rats. The middle is great for those agile rats looking for some private hang time.
This item is priced according to the amount of fleece it requires and the time I need to put it together. Unfortunately, this item can not follow the flat rate shipping since it’s pretty much 3 hammocks in one and will follow the 3 item shipping. $15 for CA and $12 for US
As they say… Go big or go home.
TX-1 $35. SOLD

I was so happy to receive an order for guinea pigs. I’m always thrilled when I create beds for all kinds of critters. I worked along with Nancy a Rat Shack member to create a soft and comfy little bed for her GPs. It turns out a little modification with the Tent was all it took to make an awesome GP bed and home. I also make a Cuddle Bag big enough for these cuties.
Here’s a pic of the tent:

I’m also now making Baby Cubes available for small pocket pets. These cubes are half the size of my regular ones. They have two holes, one in the front and one in the back. It caters to hamsters, gerbils, and even mice.

Be sure to drop Jo an email and let us know how we can provide a comfy nest for your critter.

Then look no further. Your critters are going to love these Xmas hammocks!
It always puts me in such a festive mood when I’m sewing hammocks using Xmas fabric. It’s unfortunate that these prints are hard to find but at least I had these left over from last year. They look fabulous in a Cozy Boat.
Check out the gallery for available hammocks.

Young energetic and agile rats love to run, jump, climb and rest but only for short bouts. I have created the Pop Up Tent. It’s like a jungle gym rest stop all in one. The young rats love it. They are all over that thing, from snuggling deep in the bottom to climbing it to the top. I have even caught my oldies go for the deep nest spot in the bottom. It’s a big hammock for all those big personality rats!
We introduced the Pop Up Tent at Halloween but it went so fast and I’ve been sewing some ever since but I never got around to showing one off. Finally Jo gave me a picture to post here. I’ll be sure to take better pics next time I have one for pre-made… and as a sneak peak, the next one will be in a sweet xmas print!!!
Here is Jo’s Butter Bean, resting comfortable in the middle of his Pop Up Tent. It’s definitely his domain.

Yep, you read that right. A Cozybed for a rabbit. We got a request for a cozycup type of hammock for a bunny, a bonded pair of bunnies. *insert melting aw sound here*
Nic came up with a great design, she had to go through two trials before being comfortable with that final product. It looks great. I can’t wait to add bunny in cozybed pics to our happy customer gallery.
The bunny cozybed is 16″ x 14″. This particular one doesn’t have any batting to it, we wanted to keep it strictly fleece for the ease of washing and drying. But depending on our customer feedback, we may try the batting.

We added these two little guys for size comparison.
